BookTap
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 9, 2026
BookTap is an iPhone app for writing NFC stickers that open a private local card for a physical book. This policy explains what the app accesses, what it stores, and what it does not collect. BookTap does not send your saved book library to Cognerva.
NFC access
BookTap uses your iPhone's NFC hardware to write a URL to a blank sticker while you hold the phone against it. Writing only happens when you start it in the app. BookTap does not track where or when a written tag is later tapped.
Book search
When you search for a book, BookTap may send your ISBN, title, or author query to Open Library and Google Books to return matching metadata and artwork references. These requests happen only while you search. BookTap does not send Cognerva your searches.
Saved book library
When you save or write a tag, BookTap stores the book title, author, edition details, written URL, page progress, shelf location, loan details, notes, and write date in local app storage on your device. This library stays on your device and is not synced to Cognerva.
Purchases
BookTap Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the purchase and provides BookTap with entitlement status. Cognerva does not receive your payment card details.
No accounts, analytics, ads, or tracking
BookTap does not require an account and does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking systems. Cognerva does not collect personal data through the app.
Your control
- You can delete written book tags from your library inside the app.
- You can revoke NFC or other permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
- Deleting BookTap removes its locally stored library from the device.
- A URL already written to a physical sticker can be overwritten or the sticker discarded.
