WaxTap
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 5, 2026
WaxTap is an iPhone app for writing NFC stickers that open the playback link for a record or album. This policy explains what the app accesses, what it stores, and what it does not collect. The short version: WaxTap works on your device and does not send your tag library to Cognerva.
NFC access
WaxTap uses your iPhone's NFC hardware to write a URL to a blank sticker while you hold the phone against it. Writing only happens when you start it in the app. WaxTap does not track where or when a written tag is later tapped.
Album search
When you search for an album, WaxTap sends your search terms to the Discogs API to return matching releases and artwork, and to the YouTube API to find candidate playback links. These requests are made to those services only while you look up an album. WaxTap does not send Cognerva your searches.
Written tag library
When you write a tag, WaxTap stores the album title, artist, artwork reference, the written URL, and the time it was written in the app's local storage on your device. This library stays on your device and is not synced to any external service.
WaxTap landing pages
WaxTap Pro can write an updateable WaxTap album page as the tag destination. When you choose this mode, the album details you write are used to serve that page so a tap can open it. Other payload modes write a direct link and involve no hosted page.
Purchases
WaxTap Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the purchase and provides WaxTap with entitlement status. Cognerva does not receive your payment card details.
No accounts, analytics, ads, or tracking
WaxTap does not require an account and does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking systems. Cognerva does not collect personal data through the app.
Your control
- You can delete written tags from your library inside the app.
- You can revoke NFC or other permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
- Deleting WaxTap removes its locally stored library from the device.
- A URL already written to a physical sticker can be overwritten or the sticker discarded.
